Transformer rental
Renting bridges a gap. It is the right answer when a unit has failed and the replacement is a year out, and the wrong answer when it quietly becomes permanent.
When renting is right
- A failed unit with a long replacement lead time. The most common case, and the one rental exists for.
- Temporary construction power. Load that disappears when the job finishes.
- A planned outage or a tie-in. Weeks, not months.
- A seasonal peak. Where buying capacity you use three months a year makes no sense.
What the quote needs to include
Monthly rate is the number people compare and it is rarely the number that decides the cost. Ask for all of these in writing.
| Line | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Monthly rate | The headline, usually the smallest part on a short term |
| Minimum term | Often three months whether you need it or not |
| Mobilisation and demobilisation | Frequently the largest single line |
| Freight both directions | Two moves, not one |
| Installation and connection | Who terminates, and whose scope the cable is |
| Damage and loss liability | What your insurance has to cover |
| Buyout option | Whether rent paid comes off a purchase |
The crossover is roughly twelve to eighteen months. Past that, total rental cost approaches buying outright and you still own nothing. If the gap is longer than a year, price a purchase alongside it before committing.
The alternative worth pricing first
Before renting, check whether a stocking distributor can simply sell you a unit this month. Buying from stock at a premium often lands cheaper than a year of rental plus two freight moves, and at the end you own the transformer.
Tell us the gap you are covering and we will price the rental and the purchase together so the comparison is real. Send the details or call 786 220 2801.
